Worried that people might not appreciate your new business?
Let me start by asking you this: Which do you think is tougher—getting a toddler to eat their vegetables, or getting people to invest in coaching?
For me, coaching wins, every time.
Why? Because as a coach, you’re offering something deeply personal—your knowledge, your approach, your unique way of helping others grow. It’s like putting a piece of yourself out there for the world to see. And that can make self-promotion feel incredibly vulnerable.
Especially when you're already juggling so much, and the last thing you need is more negativity.
Believe me, dealing with criticism comes with the territory. The internet has made it easy for people to hide behind their screens, ready to dish out snarky comments when they’re having a bad day. We’ve all experienced it—people who, instead of offering constructive feedback, choose to lash out or leave confusing, mean, or downright strange messages.
For instance, I once received a random email about an instagram post I wrote on balancing entrepreneurship. I made a passing reference and misspelled a word!
Normally, emails like that go to a shared inbox, and my team filters out the unnecessary negativity. But this one ended up in my personal inbox.
And you know what? It didn’t bother me.
WHEN I READ IT, I SMILED.
Here’s why: Because YES!!
If someone is more concerned about a typo than the valuable content I’m providing, they’re not the kind of person I want in my community. It’s actually a blessing they showed themselves the door. I’d rather focus on building an audience that truly connects with my message, rather than catering to someone who misses the bigger picture.
It’s better for me, my business, and the positive community I’m working to build.
SO WELCOME THE CRITICISM, KNOWING IT MEANS YOU’RE MAKING AN IMPACT.
You have your own style and voice.
And if some people don’t like it, that’s okay—it means others will love it even more.
You want to work with clients who are drawn to the real you.
So this is my encouragement to you: Be yourself. Embrace your unique approach. Don’t be afraid. Trying to make everyone happy only waters down your true value.
And for those who don’t get it? Just hit delete.
